Jilin University (JLU), founded in 1946 by the Communist Party of China, is a national key comprehensive university located in Northeast China. Jilin University has become a university with a wide range of disciplines, a profound academic background and remarkable advantages and characteristics after the former Jilin University merging with the former Jilin University of Technology, the former Norman Bethune University of Medical Sciences, the former Changchun University of Science and Technology, the former Changchun Institute of Posts and Telecommunications, and the former University of Military Logistics successively early this century.

Masters and excellent talents have gathered in large numbers at JLU. Many respectable professors used to study and work at JLU, including Wang Haoxiang, Yu Ruihuang, Li Siguang, Zhu Guangya, Tang Auchin, Yu Xingwu, Jin Jingfang, Kuang Yaming, Rao Bin, Zhang Songru, Huang Danian ect. Since 1977, 37 academicians (CAS and CAE) graduated from undergraduate programs of JLU, ranking first among universities in China (tied), which indicated the spirit of the university motto ‘Truth·Innovation·Aspiration’, and the teaching tradition of ‘Deep Theoretical Foundation, Practice, Strict Requirement’ formed.

JLU gives priority to talent cultivation and always welcomes talents all around the world. To date, over 430 national-level talents, including 12 academicians from CAS and CAE, lead the construction of all 13 academic categories except for military science. JLU has become a fertile ground for interdisciplinary integration. Under the guidance of the scientific goal of ‘Focusing on Cutting-edge Science, Highlighting National Major Demands, Attaching Importance to Cultivating Talents during Scientific Research’, many disciplines, including mathematics, physics, chemistry, materials science, archeology, Marxist theory, law, etc., have formed distinctive characteristics and achieved outstanding results in high-level scientific research platform construction, key technology development, and theoretical innovation.

JLU has been adhering to high-level openness. It has established cooperation and exchanges with 308 universities, research institutions, and international academic organizations in 42 countries and regions. Over 18,000 young talents graduate from 52 colleges and schools of JLU each year, contributing to economic and social development and the progress of human civilization, together with over 700,000 JLU alumni all over the world.
